Us mail redirect
The United States Postal Service (USPS) offers a service called "USPS Mail Forwarding" or "USPS Address Change" that allows you to redirect your mail to a new address. Here's how it works:
Why would you need to redirect your mail?
You might need to redirect your mail if:
- You're moving to a new home or apartment.
- You're traveling or living abroad for an extended period.
- You're experiencing a change in your address due to a divorce, separation, or other life event.
- You're a business owner and need to redirect your business mail.
How to redirect your mail:
To redirect your mail, you'll need to fill out a change of address form (PS Form 3575) and submit it to the USPS. You can do this online, by phone, or in person at a local post office.
Online:
- Go to the USPS website (www.usps.com).
- Click on "Move" and then "Change Your Address."
- Fill out the online form with your old and new addresses.
- Pay the required fee (currently $1.05 for online submissions).
By Phone:
- Call the USPS at 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777).
- Follow the prompts to change your address.
- Provide your old and new addresses.
- Pay the required fee (currently $1.05).
In Person:
- Visit your local post office.
- Fill out the change of address form (PS Form 3575) with your old and new addresses.
- Pay the required fee (currently $1.05).
What happens after you redirect your mail:
After you submit your change of address form, the USPS will:
- Update your address in their database.
- Forward your mail to your new address for a period of 12 months.
- Provide you with a confirmation letter and a new address label.
Important notes:
- The USPS will not forward mail that requires a signature, such as packages or certified mail.
- Some mail services, like magazine subscriptions, may not be forwarded.
- You should update your address with other government agencies, banks, credit card companies, and other relevant parties to ensure a smooth transition.
Remember to update your address with all relevant parties to avoid any disruptions to your mail service.
