Us post mail hold
The US Postal Service (USPS) offers a "Hold for Pickup" service, also known as "Hold Mail" or "Mail Hold", which allows you to temporarily suspend mail delivery to your address. Here's how it works:
Why would you want to hold your mail?
- You're going out of town and don't want your mail to pile up or get stolen.
- You're expecting a package that requires a signature, and you won't be available to sign for it.
- You're experiencing a mail theft issue and want to prevent further theft.
How to hold your mail:
- Online: Go to the USPS website (usps.com) and sign in to your account. Click on "Hold Mail" and follow the prompts.
- Phone: Call the USPS Customer Service number at 1-800-275-8777 (1-800-ASK-USPS) and ask to hold your mail.
- In-person: Visit your local post office and ask to hold your mail.
How long can you hold your mail?
You can hold your mail for up to 30 days. If you need to hold your mail for a longer period, you'll need to contact your local post office to make arrangements.
What happens to your held mail?
When you hold your mail, it will be stored at your local post office for the duration of the hold period. You can pick up your held mail at the post office during business hours.
Tips:
- Make sure to request a "Hold for Pickup" instead of a "Forwarding" to ensure your mail is held at the post office and not forwarded to a different address.
- If you're holding your mail for an extended period, consider asking a trusted neighbor or friend to pick up your mail for you.
- Keep in mind that holding your mail may delay delivery of important documents, such as bills or packages with time-sensitive information.
