Us post office media mail rates
The United States Postal Service (USPS) offers Media Mail rates for shipping books, CDs, DVDs, and other media items. Here are the current Media Mail rates:
Media Mail Rates (effective January 2022)
- Weight: 1 lb (0.45 kg) or less
- $3.44 for the first pound
- $0.75 for each additional pound
- Weight: 1 lb (0.45 kg) to 2 lbs (0.91 kg)
- $6.88 for the first 2 pounds
- $0.75 for each additional pound
- Weight: 2 lbs (0.91 kg) to 3 lbs (1.36 kg)
- $9.32 for the first 3 pounds
- $0.75 for each additional pound
- Weight: 3 lbs (1.36 kg) to 4 lbs (1.81 kg)
- $11.76 for the first 4 pounds
- $0.75 for each additional pound
- Weight: 4 lbs (1.81 kg) to 5 lbs (2.27 kg)
- $14.20 for the first 5 pounds
- $0.75 for each additional pound
- Weight: 5 lbs (2.27 kg) or more
- $16.64 for the first 5 pounds
- $0.75 for each additional pound
Additional Fees
- Fuel Surcharge: 5.5% of the total postage
- Insurance: $2.50 to $5.00, depending on the value of the item
- Signature Confirmation: $3.15
Media Mail Eligibility
To qualify for Media Mail rates, your package must contain:
- Books, including hardcover and paperback books
- CDs, DVDs, and other audiovisual materials
- Printed music, including sheet music and songbooks
- Printed educational materials, including textbooks and workbooks
- Printed materials for the blind and visually impaired
Note: Media Mail rates do not apply to packages containing merchandise, such as clothing, toys, or electronics. These items are subject to regular Parcel Post or Priority Mail rates.
