Usps/forward mail
The convenience of having mail forwarded to you, even when you're not at a fixed address!
The United States Postal Service (USPS) offers a service called "Forward Mail" that allows you to receive mail and packages at a new address, even if you're not physically present there. Here's how it works:
How to Set Up Forward Mail
- Fill out the PS Form 3575: You can download and print the form from the USPS website or pick one up at your local post office. Fill it out completely, including your old address, new address, and the date you want the forwarding to start.
- Sign and date the form: Make sure to sign and date the form in the presence of a notary public, if possible.
- Mail the form to the USPS: Send the completed form to the USPS address listed on the form.
Types of Mail Forwarding
The USPS offers two types of mail forwarding:
- Domestic Forwarding: This service forwards mail and packages within the United States. You can choose to forward mail for a specific period (e.g., 6 months, 1 year) or indefinitely.
- International Forwarding: This service forwards mail and packages from other countries to your new address in the United States.
Fees and Restrictions
There are fees associated with mail forwarding, which vary depending on the type of mail and the length of time you want to forward it. Here are some general fees:
- Domestic Forwarding: $20-$30 per year (depending on the length of time you want to forward mail)
- International Forwarding: $25-$50 per year (depending on the length of time you want to forward mail and the country of origin)
Some types of mail are not eligible for forwarding, including:
- Mail with perishable or hazardous materials
- Mail with cash or coins
- Mail with sensitive or confidential information
Tips and Reminders
- Make sure to update your address with the USPS, your bank, credit card company, and other relevant parties to ensure that your mail is forwarded correctly.
- Keep in mind that mail forwarding may delay delivery of your mail, so plan accordingly.
- If you're forwarding mail internationally, be aware that customs regulations and duties may apply.
- You can cancel your mail forwarding service at any time by submitting a new PS Form 3575 with the "Cancel" box checked.
