Usps temporary mail stop

A convenient way to take a break from mail delivery!

A USPS Temporary Mail Stop is a service offered by the United States Postal Service (USPS) that allows you to temporarily suspend mail delivery to your address. Here's how it works:

Why would you want to do this?

You might want to use a Temporary Mail Stop for various reasons, such as:

  1. Moving out of a house or apartment and don't want to forward mail.
  2. Going on a long trip or vacation and don't want to accumulate mail.
  3. Renovating or repairing your home and don't want to receive mail during that time.
  4. Avoiding junk mail or unwanted solicitations.

How to set up a Temporary Mail Stop

To set up a Temporary Mail Stop, you can:

  1. Online: Go to the USPS website (usps.com) and click on "Hold Mail" under the "Mail & Shipping" tab. Fill out the online form with your name, address, and the dates you want to suspend mail delivery.
  2. Phone: Call the USPS Customer Service number (1-800-275-8777) and ask to set up a Temporary Mail Stop.
  3. In-person: Visit your local post office and ask to set up a Temporary Mail Stop.

What happens during a Temporary Mail Stop

When you set up a Temporary Mail Stop, the USPS will:

  1. Hold all mail and packages at your local post office.
  2. Not deliver mail or packages to your address during the specified period.
  3. Keep your mail and packages for a maximum of 30 days.
  4. Return undeliverable mail to the sender.
