Usps.forward mail
The convenience of having mail forwarded to you while you're away!
The United States Postal Service (USPS) offers a service called "Forward Mail" that allows you to have your mail forwarded to a new address while you're away. Here's how it works:
How to Set Up Forward Mail
- Fill out the PS Form 3811: You can download and print the form from the USPS website or pick one up at your local post office. Fill out the form with your current address, the address you want your mail forwarded to, and the dates you want the forwarding to start and end.
- Choose the forwarding option: You can choose from three forwarding options:
- Forwarding for a specific period: Choose a specific date range for the forwarding service.
- Forwarding until further notice: The forwarding service will continue until you notify the USPS to stop it.
- Forwarding indefinitely: The forwarding service will continue until you notify the USPS to stop it.
- Pay the forwarding fee: The fee for forwarding mail is $1.05 per package or $0.20 per piece of mail (up to 15 pieces). You can pay with a credit card, check, or money order.
- Submit the form: Take the completed form to your local post office or mail it to the USPS address listed on the form.
What Mail Will Be Forwarded
The USPS will forward most types of mail, including:
- Letters
- Postcards
- Packages
- Periodicals (newspapers, magazines, etc.)
- Bills and statements
- Catalogs
What Mail Will Not Be Forwarded
The USPS will not forward:
- Mail that requires a signature upon delivery (e.g., packages with signature requirements)
- Mail that is too large or too heavy for forwarding (e.g., large packages or pallets)
- Mail that is perishable or requires special handling (e.g., live animals, plants, or hazardous materials)
Tips and Reminders
- Make sure to update your address with the USPS, your bank, credit card company, and other relevant parties to ensure that your mail is forwarded correctly.
- Keep in mind that forwarding mail may take some time, so it's a good idea to plan ahead and set up your forwarding service well in advance of your departure.
- If you're moving permanently, you may want to consider setting up a permanent change of address with the USPS instead of using the forwarding service.
