What communication channel is e mail

Email is a type of asynchronous communication channel. Asynchronous communication means that the sender and receiver are not required to be online at the same time to communicate. The sender sends the message (in this case, an email) and the receiver can access and respond to it at their convenience.

In particular, email is a type of:

  1. Store-and-forward communication: The sender's email client stores the message and forwards it to the recipient's email server, which then stores it until the recipient checks their email.
  2. Push-pull communication: The sender initiates the communication by sending the email, and the recipient pulls the message from their email server when they check their email.

Email is often used for formal or professional communication, such as business correspondence, and is also commonly used for personal communication, such as staying in touch with friends and family.
