What is outbox in apple mail

In Apple Mail, the Outbox is a folder that stores emails that have been sent but not yet delivered to the recipient's mailbox. When you click the "Send" button in Apple Mail, the email is moved to the Outbox folder instead of being immediately deleted.

The Outbox serves several purposes:

  1. Temporary storage: The Outbox provides a temporary storage location for emails that have been sent but not yet delivered. This allows you to keep a record of the emails you've sent, in case you need to refer to them later.
  2. Error handling: If an email cannot be delivered to the recipient's mailbox (e.g., due to a temporary network issue or a full recipient mailbox), it will remain in the Outbox until the issue is resolved.
  3. Resend capability: If you need to resend an email, you can simply move it back to the Drafts folder and edit it as needed.

To access the Outbox in Apple Mail:

  1. Open Apple Mail.
  2. Click on the "Mailbox" menu at the top of the screen.
  3. Select "Outbox" from the drop-down menu.

Alternatively, you can also access the Outbox by clicking on the "Outbox" folder in the left-hand sidebar of the Apple Mail window.

Note that the Outbox is not the same as the "Sent" folder, which stores emails that have been successfully delivered to the recipient's mailbox.
