What to put in outgoing mail server
The outgoing mail server, also known as the SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) server, is used to send emails from your email account to the recipient's email account. Here's what you need to put in the outgoing mail server field:
For most email providers:
- For Gmail:
smtp.gmail.com
(port 587 or 465) - For Yahoo:
smtp.yahoo.com
(port 587 or 465) - For Outlook.com:
smtp-mail.outlook.com
(port 587 or 465) - For AOL:
smtp.aol.com
(port 587 or 465) - For Hotmail:
smtp.live.com
(port 587 or 465)
For other email providers:
- Check your email provider's documentation or contact their support team to find the correct outgoing mail server settings.
Port numbers:
- Port 587 is the default port for submitting email messages to an SMTP server. This port is usually used for sending emails.
- Port 465 is an alternative port that can be used for sending emails. This port is often used for secure connections (TLS/SSL).
Authentication:
- You may need to enter your email account username and password to authenticate with the outgoing mail server.
- Some email providers may require you to use an app password or a two-factor authentication code to access the outgoing mail server.
Example:
- If you're using Gmail, you would enter
smtp.gmail.com
as the outgoing mail server, and587
as the port number. You would also need to enter your Gmail username and password to authenticate.
Remember to check your email provider's documentation or contact their support team if you're unsure about the correct outgoing mail server settings for your email account.
