Where to mail 940 payment
If you need to mail a payment for a Form 940 (Employer's Annual Federal Unemployment Tax Return), you can send it to the following address:
Internal Revenue Service Attn: Form 940 P.O. Box 530 Kirkwood, MO 63501-0530
Make sure to include your Employer Identification Number (EIN) and the year of the return on the payment. You can also use the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) to make electronic payments.
Here are some additional tips:
- Make sure to use the correct mailing address, as the IRS has different addresses for different types of payments.
- Use a check or money order made payable to the "United States Treasury."
- Include a completed Form 940-V (Payment Voucher) with your payment.
- Keep a copy of your payment and the Form 940-V for your records.
- If you're making a payment by mail, allow at least 4-6 weeks for processing.
Remember to file your Form 940 by the annual deadline, which is typically January 31st of each year. If you need more time to file, you can request an extension by filing Form 8809 (Application for Extension of Time To File Information Returns).
