Why do butchers wear chain mail

I think there may be some confusion here!

Butchers do not typically wear chain mail. Chain mail is a type of armor made up of interlocking iron rings that was historically worn by knights and other warriors to protect themselves from sword blows and arrows.

Butchers, on the other hand, are professionals who work with meat and poultry, and their attire is designed for safety and practicality in the workplace. Butchers typically wear:

  1. Aprons: to protect their clothing from blood and other substances.
  2. Gloves: to prevent cuts and abrasions from sharp knives and meat.
  3. Safety glasses: to protect their eyes from flying particles or debris.
  4. Steel-toed shoes or boots: to protect their feet from heavy objects or sharp edges.
  5. Hairnets or hats: to keep their hair clean and prevent it from falling into the meat.

So, you won't typically see butchers wearing chain mail or any other type of armor in their daily work!
