Why was my second stimulus check mailed

I think there may be some confusion here!

There was only one stimulus check, also known as an Economic Impact Payment (EIP), authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act in March 2020. This check was sent to eligible individuals and families to help mitigate the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you received a second stimulus check, it's possible that you may have received an additional payment as part of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) or the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), which were passed later in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

Here's a brief summary of each:

  1. CRRSAA (December 2020): This act provided an additional $600 stimulus check to eligible individuals and families who received the initial EIP in 2020.
  2. ARPA (March 2021): This act provided a third stimulus check, also known as the "American Rescue Plan stimulus check," which was worth up to $1,400 per person, depending on income and family size.

If you received a second stimulus check, it's likely because you were eligible for one of these additional payments. You can check your eligibility and the amount you received on the IRS website or through the IRS's Get My Payment tool.

If you're still unsure about your stimulus checks, feel free to ask, and I'll do my best to help you understand the situation!
