Zikret Smailović!

Zikret Smailović is a Bosnian musician and accordionist, best known for his incredible performance during the Siege of Sarajevo in the 1990s.

In 1992, Smailović, who was a member of the Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra, found himself trapped in the city during the Bosnian War. Despite the danger and chaos around him, he decided to play his accordion on the fourth floor of the National Library, which had been converted into a makeshift shelter for civilians.

For 22 days, Smailović played beautiful melodies on his accordion, often for hours at a time, to lift the spirits of those around him and to bring a sense of normalcy to the war-torn city. His performances were a beacon of hope and humanity in the midst of conflict.

Smailović's story has been widely recognized and celebrated, and he has become an international symbol of resilience and artistic expression in the face of adversity.
