Access allowed for less secure apps live mail

The infamous "Less Secure Apps" setting in Live Mail!

By default, Microsoft Outlook Live (now known as Outlook.com) has a security feature called "Less Secure Apps" that's enabled by default. This setting allows apps to access your account without requiring an app password.

Here's what it means:

To access your account using an app that requires "Less Secure Apps" to be enabled, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your Outlook.com account.
  2. Click on your profile picture or initials in the top right corner, then select "View account" from the dropdown menu.
  3. Scroll down to the "Sign-in & security" section.
  4. Click on "App passwords" (not to be confused with the "Two-step verification" setting).
  5. Click on "Create a new app password".
  6. Enter a name for the app (e.g., "My App") and click "Create".
  7. You'll receive a new app password. Note it down or store it securely.

Now, when you set up your app to access your Outlook.com account, you'll need to enter this app password instead of your regular password.

Important: Be cautious when enabling "Less Secure Apps", as it increases the risk of unauthorized access to your account. Only enable this setting if you're certain that the app you're using is legitimate and requires this setting to function.

If you're unsure about the security implications or have concerns about enabling "Less Secure Apps", consider using alternative authentication methods, such as OAuth 2.0, which is more secure.
