Frustrating! Let's troubleshoot the issue. Here are some steps to help you add Gmail to Mac Mail:

Step 1: Check your Gmail settings

  1. Go to your Gmail account settings (gear icon) > Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
  2. Ensure that "Enable IMAP" is selected.
  3. Note down your IMAP settings: imap.gmail.com (IMAP server), 995 (IMAP port), and ssl (IMAP encryption).

Step 2: Set up Gmail in Mac Mail

  1. Open Mac Mail.
  2. Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts.
  3. Click the + button to add a new account.
  4. Select Other Mail Account and click Continue.
  5. Enter your name, email address, and password.
  6. Select IMAP as the account type.
  7. Enter the IMAP settings you noted down in Step 1:
    • imap.gmail.com (IMAP server)
    • 995 (IMAP port)
    • ssl (IMAP encryption)
  8. Click Create to create the account.

Step 3: Verify your account settings

  1. Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts.
  2. Select your Gmail account.
  3. Click the Edit button next to Account Information.
  4. Verify that the IMAP settings are correct:
    • imap.gmail.com (IMAP server)
    • 995 (IMAP port)
    • ssl (IMAP encryption)
  5. Click OK to save the changes.

Step 4: Check for any errors

  1. Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts.
  2. Select your Gmail account.
  3. Click the Edit button next to Account Information.
  4. Look for any error messages or warnings.
  5. If you see an error, try restarting Mac Mail or checking your Gmail account settings again.

Additional troubleshooting steps

  1. Check your Gmail account's two-factor authentication (2FA) settings. If 2FA is enabled, you may need to generate an App Password for Mac Mail.
  2. Ensure that your Mac's date and time settings are correct, as this can affect IMAP connectivity.
  3. Try restarting your Mac or Mac Mail to see if it resolves the issue.
  4. If none of the above steps work, try resetting your Mac Mail settings by going to Mail > Preferences > Reset and then reconfiguring your Gmail account.
