Apple mail cannot add gmail

A common issue!

Apple Mail can't add Gmail accounts by default because Gmail uses OAuth 2.0 for authentication, which is a more secure way of authenticating with Google services. Apple Mail doesn't support OAuth 2.0 out of the box, which is why you can't add a Gmail account directly.

However, there are a few workarounds to get your Gmail account working with Apple Mail:

  1. Use IMAP: You can set up your Gmail account using IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) instead of OAuth 2.0. To do this, go to Settings > Accounts > Add Account > Other Mail Account, and then select "IMAP" as the account type. You'll need to enter your Gmail address and password, and then configure the IMAP settings manually. You can find the IMAP settings in your Gmail account settings under "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" > "Enable IMAP".
  2. Use a third-party app: There are several third-party apps available that can help you add your Gmail account to Apple Mail. One popular option is "Gmail IMAP" by Google, which allows you to access your Gmail account using IMAP. You can download the app from the App Store and follow the instructions to set it up.
  3. Use a different email client: If you're not attached to using Apple Mail, you can try using a different email client that supports OAuth 2.0, such as Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird.

I hope one of these workarounds helps you get your Gmail account working with Apple Mail!
