Smart Addresses in Apple Mail!

Smart Addresses, also known as "Smart Mailboxes" or "Smart Folders," are a feature in Apple Mail that allows you to create custom filters and labels for your emails. This feature helps you organize your inbox by automatically sorting and categorizing your emails based on specific criteria.

Here's how to use Smart Addresses in Apple Mail:

Creating a Smart Address:

  1. Open Apple Mail and go to the "Mail" menu.
  2. Select "Preferences" and then click on the "Smart Mailboxes" tab.
  3. Click the "+" button at the bottom left corner of the window to create a new Smart Address.
  4. Enter a name for your Smart Address in the "Name" field.
  5. Choose the criteria for your Smart Address by selecting from the following options:
    • "From" (sender's email address)
    • "To" (recipient's email address)
    • "Subject" (email subject)
    • "Contains" (search for specific words or phrases in the email)
    • "Is" (exact match for a specific word or phrase)
    • "Has attachment" (emails with attachments)
    • "Has not attachment" (emails without attachments)
    • "Is unread" (unread emails)
    • "Is read" (read emails)
  6. Set the condition for your Smart Address by selecting "Is" or "Is not" and then choosing the criteria you want to apply.
  7. Click "OK" to save your Smart Address.

Using a Smart Address:

  1. Once you've created a Smart Address, you can use it to filter your emails by selecting it from the "Mail" menu or by using the "Smart Mailboxes" sidebar.
  2. You can also use Smart Addresses to create custom folders and labels for your emails.
  3. To create a custom folder, select the Smart Address and then click "File" > "New Smart Folder" or use the keyboard shortcut "Cmd + Shift + F".
  4. To create a custom label, select the Smart Address and then click "Edit" > "Label" or use the keyboard shortcut "Cmd + Shift + L".
