Built in mouse wont scroll in mac mail

Frustrating!

Don't worry, I'm here to help you troubleshoot the issue. Here are some steps to help you resolve the problem with your built-in mouse not scrolling in Mac Mail:

  1. Check the Mouse Settings:
    • Go to System Preferences > Mouse.
    • Ensure that the "Scrolling" option is set to "Natural" or "One Finger" (depending on your preference).
    • Make sure the "Scroll direction" is set to "Natural" or "Reverse" (if you prefer).
  2. Disable and Re-enable the Mouse:
    • Go to System Preferences > Mouse.
    • Click on the "Mouse" tab.
    • Uncheck the box next to "Enable mouse" and then re-check it.
  3. Reset the Mouse:
    • Go to System Preferences > Mouse.
    • Click on the "Reset" button at the bottom of the window.
  4. Check for Conflicting Software:
    • Some software may interfere with the mouse functionality. Try closing any unnecessary apps or background programs.
  5. Update Your Mouse Driver:
    • Go to System Preferences > Mouse.
    • Click on the "Update" button next to "Mouse Driver".
  6. Reset NVRAM and SMC:
    • Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the following keys:
      • Command (⌘) + Option (⌥) + P + R
    • Release the keys when you hear the boot chime for the second time.
    • This will reset the NVRAM and SMC, which may resolve the issue.
  7. Try a Different Mouse:
    • If you have a separate mouse connected to your Mac, try using it to see if the issue is specific to the built-in mouse.
  8. Reinstall Mac Mail:
    • If none of the above steps work, try reinstalling Mac Mail:
      • Go to Applications > Utilities > Terminal.
      • Type sudo rm -rf ~/Library/Mail and press Enter.
      • Type sudo mv ~/Library/Mail ~/Library/Mail.old and press Enter.
      • Restart your Mac and try opening Mac Mail again.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may want to consider contacting Apple Support or visiting an Apple Store for further assistance.
