Can you not get incoming and outgoing mail with ses

Amazon Simple Email Service (SES) is primarily designed for sending and receiving transactional emails, such as password reset emails, order confirmations, and welcome emails. While SES does provide some basic email receiving capabilities, it is not a full-fledged email service like Gmail or Outlook, and it has some limitations when it comes to receiving incoming and outgoing mail.

Here are some limitations to consider:

Incoming Mail:

  1. Limited support for incoming mail: SES is primarily designed for sending emails, not receiving them. While you can set up an SES mailbox to receive emails, the service is not designed to handle large volumes of incoming mail.
  2. No support for POP3 or IMAP: SES does not support POP3 or IMAP protocols, which are commonly used to retrieve emails from a mailbox.
  3. Limited mailbox storage: SES mailboxes have limited storage capacity, typically around 1 GB. If you receive a large volume of emails, you may need to regularly clean out your mailbox to avoid hitting storage limits.

Outgoing Mail:

  1. No support for sending emails from arbitrary domains: SES requires you to verify your domain ownership and set up a DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) record to send emails from your own domain. This can be a limitation if you need to send emails from multiple domains.
  2. Limited sending rates: SES has rate limits on the number of emails you can send per day, which can be a limitation if you need to send a large volume of emails.

If you need a more comprehensive email service with support for incoming and outgoing mail, you may want to consider using a third-party email service like Gmail, Outlook, or Zoho Mail. These services offer more advanced features, such as POP3 and IMAP support, larger mailbox storage, and more flexible sending rates.

However, if you only need to send transactional emails and don't require advanced email features, SES can be a cost-effective and reliable solution.
