Does mail read gmail

Mail.app, which is a default email client on macOS, can read Gmail accounts, but it requires some setup. Here's how:

Method 1: IMAP

  1. Enable IMAP in your Gmail settings:
    • Log in to your Gmail account.
    • Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner.
    • Select "See all settings."
    • Go to the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab.
    • Enable "Enable IMAP."
  2. Set up Mail.app to use IMAP:
    • Open Mail.app.
    • Go to "Mail" > "Preferences" > "Accounts."
    • Click the "+" button to add a new account.
    • Select "Other" as the account type.
    • Enter your Gmail address and password.
    • Select "IMAP" as the account type.
    • Enter the IMAP server as "imap.gmail.com" and the port as "993."
    • Click "Create" to save the account.

Method 2: POP

  1. Enable POP in your Gmail settings:
    • Log in to your Gmail account.
    • Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner.
    • Select "See all settings."
    • Go to the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab.
    • Enable "Enable POP for all mail."
  2. Set up Mail.app to use POP:
    • Open Mail.app.
    • Go to "Mail" > "Preferences" > "Accounts."
    • Click the "+" button to add a new account.
    • Select "Other" as the account type.
    • Enter your Gmail address and password.
    • Select "POP" as the account type.
    • Enter the POP server as "pop.gmail.com" and the port as "995."
    • Click "Create" to save the account.

Note: If you're using two-factor authentication (2FA) with your Gmail account, you may need to generate an App Password and use it instead of your regular password in Mail.app.

Once you've set up your Gmail account in Mail.app, you should be able to read your Gmail emails using the client.
