Does your restricted registration get sent by registered mail

In the United States, the restricted registration (Form 4473) that is required for the purchase of a firearm from a Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) is typically sent to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) via electronic transmission, not by registered mail.

When an FFL conducts a background check through NICS, they submit the required information, including the buyer's name, date of birth, and other identifying information, along with the restricted registration form. This information is then transmitted electronically to NICS, which checks the buyer's criminal history and other relevant information to determine whether they are eligible to purchase a firearm.

If the background check is approved, the FFL will typically receive an electronic response from NICS indicating that the sale can proceed. The FFL will then complete the sale and provide the buyer with the firearm.

It's worth noting that while the restricted registration form is not sent by registered mail, the FFL is still required to maintain a record of the sale, including the buyer's name, date of birth, and other identifying information, as well as the make, model, and serial number of the firearm sold. These records must be kept on file for a minimum of 20 years.
