Hold mail application
The "Hold Mail" application!
The Hold Mail application is a service offered by the United States Postal Service (USPS) that allows you to temporarily suspend mail delivery to your address while you're away. Here's how it works:
Why would you want to hold your mail?
- You're going on a trip or vacation and don't want to accumulate mail while you're away.
- You're moving to a new address and don't want to forward your mail.
- You're experiencing a mail theft issue and want to prevent further theft.
How to hold your mail:
- Online: Go to the USPS website (usps.com) and click on "Hold Mail" under the "Mail & Shipping" tab.
- Phone: Call the USPS customer service number at 1-800-275-8777 and ask to hold your mail.
- In-person: Visit your local post office and ask to hold your mail.
What happens when you hold your mail:
- The USPS will suspend mail delivery to your address for a specified period (up to 30 days).
- You'll receive a confirmation email or letter from the USPS with a unique hold mail ID.
- During the hold period, any mail sent to your address will be held at the local post office.
- You can pick up your held mail at the post office or have it forwarded to a different address.
Important notes:
- You can only hold your mail for a maximum of 30 days.
- You'll need to provide a valid reason for holding your mail (e.g., vacation, moving, etc.).
- If you're holding your mail for an extended period, you may need to provide additional documentation or proof of identity.
By holding your mail, you can ensure that your mail is safe and secure while you're away, and you can pick it up or have it forwarded when you return.
