Hotmail inbox rules
Hotmail (now Outlook.com) allows you to set up rules to automatically sort, forward, or delete emails based on specific conditions. Here are the steps to set up inbox rules in Hotmail:
Step 1: Log in to your Hotmail account
Go to outlook.com and sign in to your Hotmail account.
Step 2: Click on the gear icon
Click on the gear icon () in the top right corner of the page.
Step 3: Select "View all Outlook settings"
From the dropdown menu, select "View all Outlook settings".
Step 4: Go to "Mail" settings
In the Outlook settings page, click on "Mail" in the left sidebar.
Step 5: Click on "Rules"
In the Mail settings page, click on "Rules" in the left sidebar.
Step 6: Click on "New rule"
Click on the "New rule" button to create a new rule.
Step 7: Choose the condition
Select the condition for which you want to apply the rule. For example, you can choose "From" to apply the rule to emails from a specific sender, or "Subject" to apply the rule to emails with a specific subject.
Step 8: Choose the action
Select the action you want to take when the condition is met. For example, you can choose "Move to" to move the email to a specific folder, or "Delete" to delete the email.
Step 9: Specify the folder or action
If you chose "Move to" as the action, specify the folder where you want to move the email. If you chose "Delete" as the action, confirm that you want to delete the email.
Step 10: Save the rule
Click on the "Save" button to save the rule.
Here are some examples of inbox rules you can set up:
- Move all emails from a specific sender to a specific folder.
- Delete all emails with a specific subject.
- Forward all emails from a specific sender to another email address.
- Move all emails with a specific attachment to a specific folder.
- Delete all emails older than a specific date.
Note: Inbox rules are only available in the Outlook.com web version and not in the Outlook mobile app.
