Hotmail pop3 configuration
Here are the steps to configure Hotmail (now Outlook.com) using POP3:
Note: Hotmail no longer supports POP3 access by default, but you can still use it by enabling POP3 access in your Outlook.com account settings.
Step 1: Enable POP3 access in Outlook.com
- Sign in to your Outlook.com account.
- Click on the gear icon () in the top right corner and select "View all Outlook settings".
- Click on "Mail" and then "Accounts".
- Click on "POP and IMAP" and toggle the switch to "On" for "POP3".
- Click "Save" to save the changes.
Step 2: Configure your email client
- Open your email client (e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, etc.).
- Create a new account or edit an existing one.
- Enter the following settings:
- Server: pop.outlook.com
- Port: 995 (or 110 if your client doesn't support SSL/TLS)
- Username: Your Outlook.com email address (e.g. [yourname]@outlook.com)
- Password: Your Outlook.com password
- Authentication: Use the same authentication method as your Outlook.com account (e.g. username and password, or OAuth)
- Click "Next" or "Finish" to complete the setup.
Additional settings
- SSL/TLS: Enable SSL/TLS encryption to secure your connection.
- Leave messages on server: If you want to keep a copy of your emails on the server, select this option. Otherwise, select "Delete messages from server" to remove them after downloading.
- Check for new messages: Set the interval at which your email client checks for new messages.
Troubleshooting tips
- If you're having trouble connecting, check that your email client is configured correctly and that your internet connection is stable.
- If you're still having issues, try disabling any firewall or antivirus software that may be blocking the connection.
- If you're using a proxy server, make sure it's configured correctly and that it's not blocking the connection.
