How are subjects of mails visible in gmail

In Gmail, the subject of an email is visible in several places:

  1. Inbox: When you open your inbox, you'll see a list of emails with their subjects displayed next to each email. The subject is usually the first line of the email, and it's truncated to a certain length (around 50-60 characters).
  2. Email list: When you click on the "All Mail" or "Inbox" tab, you'll see a list of emails with their subjects, sender names, and dates. The subject is displayed in a column next to the sender's name.
  3. Email preview: When you hover over an email in your inbox, a preview of the email appears, including the subject.
  4. Email list in a label: If you have labels set up in Gmail, you can view emails with a specific label by clicking on that label. The email list will display the subjects of the emails in that label.
  5. Search results: When you search for emails using Gmail's search bar, the search results will display the subjects of the matching emails.
  6. Email thread: When you open an email thread, you'll see a list of emails in the thread, with their subjects displayed next to each email.
  7. Compose window: When you're composing a new email, you can see the subject of the email in the compose window, above the message body.

Gmail uses a combination of algorithms and user behavior to determine which parts of an email to display in the subject line. The subject is usually chosen based on the most relevant and attention-grabbing text in the email, but it's not always a perfect representation of the email's content.
