How to delete sent mail from both side
The eternal quest to declutter our inboxes!
Deleting sent emails from both sides (i.e., from your own email account and from the recipient's email account) can be a bit tricky, but I'll provide you with some general steps and tips to help you achieve this.
Method 1: Delete sent emails from your own email account
- Log in to your email account (e.g., Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo).
- Go to the "Sent" folder or "Sent Items" folder, depending on your email provider.
- Select the sent emails you want to delete.
- Click on the "Delete" or "Trash" button to move the selected emails to the "Trash" or "Deleted Items" folder.
- Confirm that you want to delete the emails.
Method 2: Delete sent emails from the recipient's email account (if possible)
- If you have the recipient's email address, you can try sending a new email to them with the subject "Delete sent email" or something similar.
- In the body of the email, include a link to the sent email you want to delete, or attach the email to the new email.
- Ask the recipient to delete the sent email from their "Sent" folder or "Sent Items" folder.
- If the recipient agrees, they can delete the email from their account.
Method 3: Use email client features (if available)
Some email clients, like Microsoft Outlook, offer features to delete sent emails from both sides. For example:
- In Outlook, go to the "Sent Items" folder.
- Select the sent emails you want to delete.
- Right-click on the selected emails and choose "Delete & Permanently Remove from Server" (or similar option).
Tips and considerations
- Before deleting sent emails, make sure you have a backup of your emails, in case you need to recover them later.
- Be cautious when deleting sent emails, as this action is permanent and cannot be undone.
- If you're using a shared email account or a business email account, be sure to check with your administrator or colleagues before deleting sent emails.
- Some email providers may have specific settings or features to delete sent emails, so check your email provider's documentation for more information.
Remember that deleting sent emails from both sides is not always possible, especially if the recipient has already deleted the email from their account. However, by following these methods and tips, you should be able to delete sent emails from your own email account and, in some cases, from the recipient's email account as well.
