How to revert earlier sent mail in gmail
The dreaded "oops, I sent that email too soon!" moment. Don't worry, Gmail has a feature that allows you to undo sent emails for a short period of time. Here's how to do it:
Method 1: Undo Send (available for 30 seconds)
- After sending an email, you'll see a notification at the top of the page that says "Undo Send."
- Click on "Undo" within 30 seconds of sending the email. This will retract the email and prevent it from being delivered.
Method 2: Undo Send (available for 5, 10, 20, or 30 seconds)
- Go to your Gmail settings by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the page.
- Click on "See all settings."
- Scroll down to the "General" tab.
- Under "Undo Send," select the time period you want to set for undoing sent emails (5, 10, 20, or 30 seconds).
- Click "Save Changes."
- After sending an email, you'll have the option to undo it within the set time period.
Method 3: Use the "Undo Send" browser extension
- Install the "Undo Send" browser extension from the Chrome Web Store (or your preferred browser's extension store).
- Once installed, you'll see a "Undo Send" button appear in your Gmail compose window.
- Click on the button to retract the email and prevent it from being delivered.
Method 4: Use the "Send and Archive" feature
- When composing an email, click on the "Send and Archive" button instead of just "Send."
- This will send the email and archive it immediately, so you won't be able to retrieve it.
Important notes:
- The "Undo Send" feature only works for emails sent from the Gmail web interface. If you send an email from the Gmail mobile app, you won't be able to undo it.
- If you've already sent an email and want to retract it, you can try using the "Report spam" or "Report phishing" feature to mark the email as spam or phishing. This may help prevent the email from being delivered, but it's not a guarantee.
- If you've sent an email and want to recall it, you can try contacting the recipient and asking them to delete the email. However, this is not a reliable method and may not work.
