How to unthread emails
Unthreading emails refers to the process of removing the thread or conversation structure from an email conversation, so that each email appears as a standalone message rather than as part of a larger conversation. Here are a few ways to unthread emails:
Method 1: Using the "Unthread" feature in Gmail
- Log in to your Gmail account.
- Open the email conversation you want to unthread.
- Click on the three vertical dots at the top right corner of the conversation.
- Select "Unthread" from the dropdown menu.
- Confirm that you want to unthread the conversation.
Method 2: Using the "Unthread" feature in Outlook
- Log in to your Outlook account.
- Open the email conversation you want to unthread.
- Click on the "Unthread" button located at the top of the conversation.
- Confirm that you want to unthread the conversation.
Method 3: Using a third-party email client or add-on
There are several third-party email clients and add-ons that offer unthreading features. For example:
- Sanebox: A Gmail add-on that allows you to unthread emails with a single click.
- Boomerang: A Gmail add-on that offers a range of features, including unthreading.
- SaneBlackHole: A Gmail add-on that allows you to unthread emails and also delete them.
Method 4: Using a keyboard shortcut
Some email clients, such as Gmail, offer keyboard shortcuts for unthreading emails. For example:
- In Gmail, you can use the keyboard shortcut "u" to unthread an email conversation.
Note: Unthreading emails may not always be possible, especially if the conversation has been heavily replied to or if the emails are stored in a non-threaded format. Additionally, unthreading emails may affect the way the conversation is displayed in your email client or the way you can search for specific emails within the conversation.
