Proton mail custom domain

Proton Mail allows you to use a custom domain with your Proton Mail account, which can be a great way to add a professional touch to your email address. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to set up a custom domain with Proton Mail:

Requirements:

Step 1: Verify your domain

  1. Log in to your Proton Mail account and go to the "Settings" icon (looks like a gear) in the top right corner.
  2. Click on "Custom Domain" and then "Verify Domain".
  3. Enter your domain name and click "Verify".
  4. Proton Mail will provide you with a TXT record that you need to add to your domain's DNS settings.

Step 2: Add the TXT record

  1. Log in to your domain registrar's control panel and go to the DNS management section.
  2. Add a new TXT record with the following settings:
    • Host: _protonmailverify
    • Value: The TXT record provided by Proton Mail
    • TTL: Leave it as the default value (usually 3600 seconds)
  3. Save the changes to your DNS settings.

Step 3: Set up the MX records

  1. In your Proton Mail account, go back to the "Custom Domain" settings.
  2. Click on "MX Records" and then "Add MX Record".
  3. Enter the following MX record settings:
    • Priority: 10
    • Host: @ (or your domain name without the www prefix)
    • Value: mx1.protonmail.ch (or mx2.protonmail.ch if the first one doesn't work)
  4. Click "Add" to save the MX record.

Step 4: Set up the CNAME record

  1. In your Proton Mail account, go back to the "Custom Domain" settings.
  2. Click on "CNAME Records" and then "Add CNAME Record".
  3. Enter the following CNAME record settings:
    • Host: www (or your domain name without the www prefix)
    • Value: mail.protonmail.ch
  4. Click "Add" to save the CNAME record.

Step 5: Wait for the DNS changes to propagate

It may take some time for the DNS changes to propagate globally. You can check the status of your DNS changes using online tools like DNSChecker or WhatsMyDNS.

Step 6: Set up your custom domain email address

  1. Go back to your Proton Mail account and click on "Settings" > "Custom Domain".
  2. Click on "Set up custom domain email address".
  3. Enter your custom domain email address (e.g. [yourname]@yourdomain.com) and click "Save".

That's it! Your custom domain should now be set up with Proton Mail. You can use your custom domain email address to send and receive emails.
