A blast from the past!

SCRTC (Southwestern Cable Research and Communications) was a Canadian cable television company that operated in the 1980s and 1990s. "Magic Mail" was one of their services, which allowed customers to send and receive electronic mail (email) over the cable television network.

Here's how it worked:

  1. Customers would use a special terminal or computer to compose and send emails.
  2. The emails would be transmitted over the cable TV network to the SCRTC central office.
  3. The central office would then forward the emails to their intended recipients, who would receive them on their own terminals or computers.

Magic Mail was a pioneering service that allowed people to send and receive email over a cable TV network, long before the widespread adoption of the internet. It was an innovative way to connect people and facilitate communication, especially in areas where traditional phone lines or internet access were not available.

Do you have any fond memories of using Magic Mail or SCRTC's other services?
