Setting up icloud email on thunderbird

To set up iCloud email on Thunderbird, you'll need to follow these steps:

Step 1: Enable IMAP in iCloud

  1. Go to the iCloud website (www.icloud.com) and sign in with your Apple ID.
  2. Click on the "Settings" icon (looks like a gear) in the top right corner.
  3. Scroll down and click on "Mail, Contacts, Calendars".
  4. Click on "Account Settings" and then select "Advanced".
  5. Under "Incoming Mail Security", select "None" for "Authentication Method" and "TLS" for "Use SSL".
  6. Click "Save" to save your changes.

Step 2: Set up iCloud email account in Thunderbird

  1. Open Thunderbird and go to "File" > "New" > "Existing Mail Account".
  2. Enter your name and email address (e.g., [yourname]@icloud.com).
  3. Select "IMAP" as the account type.
  4. Enter the following settings:
    • Incoming Server: imap.mail.me.com
    • Port: 993
    • Username: your Apple ID (e.g., [yourname]@icloud.com)
    • Password: your Apple ID password
    • Encryption: SSL/TLS
  5. Click "Next" and then "Finish" to complete the setup.

Step 3: Set up Outgoing Server (SMTP)

  1. Go to "Tools" > "Account Settings" > "Outgoing Server (SMTP)".
  2. Click on "Edit" next to "Outgoing Server (SMTP)".
  3. Enter the following settings:
    • Server: smtp.mail.me.com
    • Port: 587
    • Username: your Apple ID (e.g., [yourname]@icloud.com)
    • Password: your Apple ID password
    • Encryption: STARTTLS
  4. Click "OK" to save the changes.

Step 4: Test your account

  1. Go to "File" > "New" > "Email" to compose a new email.
  2. Send a test email to yourself or another email address.
  3. Check your email account to ensure the email was sent successfully.
