Job Title: Mail Processor
Job Summary:
The Mail Processor is responsible for processing and sorting mail and packages at a United States Postal Service (USPS) facility. This role is critical to ensuring timely and efficient delivery of mail and packages to customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sort and process mail and packages according to USPS procedures and regulations
- Operate automated processing equipment, such as automated package processing machines and automated sorting machines
- Manually sort and process mail and packages that cannot be processed by automated equipment
- Verify and correct addresses and zip codes on mail and packages
- Weigh and measure mail and packages to determine postage and handling fees
- Prepare mail and packages for transportation to other USPS facilities or for delivery to customers
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including the processing floor and surrounding areas
- Follow safety procedures and protocols to prevent injuries and ensure a safe working environment
- Work efficiently and accurately to meet productivity and quality standards
- Collaborate with other USPS employees to resolve issues and improve processing efficiency
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Ability to lift and carry mail and packages weighing up to 70 pounds
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work in a noisy and dynamic environment with frequent interruptions
- Basic math skills and ability to accurately count and weigh mail and packages
- Ability to follow instructions and procedures accurately
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and management
- Ability to pass a background check and obtain a USPS security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a mail processing or customer service role
- Knowledge of USPS procedures and regulations
- Basic computer skills and ability to use USPS software and systems
- Ability to speak multiple languages
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with frequent interruptions
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift and carry mail and packages weighing up to 70 pounds
- May be exposed to noise, dust, and other environmental hazards
- Must be able to work in a cold and/or hot environment, depending on the facility
- May be required to work in a confined space or in a high-traffic area
