The USPS (United States Postal Service) uses a standardized system of return mail codes to indicate the reason for returning a piece of mail. Here are some common USPS return mail codes:
Return to Sender (RTS) Codes
- 1: Addressed to a non-existent person or organization
- 2: Addressed to a person or organization that has moved
- 3: Addressed to a person or organization that has changed its name
- 4: Addressed to a person or organization that has ceased to exist
- 5: Addressed to a person or organization that has refused delivery
- 6: Addressed to a person or organization that has returned to sender
- 7: Addressed to a person or organization that has been notified of a change of address
- 8: Addressed to a person or organization that has been notified of a change of name
