Uva email alias account
A question about UVA email alias accounts!
At the University of Virginia (UVA), an email alias account is a feature that allows you to create a secondary email address that forwards emails to your primary UVA email account. Here's how to set up and manage your UVA email alias account:
Setting up an email alias account:
- Log in to your UVA email account using your UVA computing ID and password.
- Click on the "Settings" icon (represented by a gear) in the top right corner of the email interface.
- Select "Forwarding" from the drop-down menu.
- Click on "Add a forwarding address" and enter the alias email address you want to create.
- Choose the forwarding option: "Forward to another email address" or "Forward to a UVA email address".
- Enter the email address you want to forward to (your primary UVA email account or another email address).
- Click "Save" to save your changes.
Managing your email alias account:
- To view and manage your email alias accounts, go to the "Settings" icon > "Forwarding" > "Manage forwarding addresses".
- You can edit or delete an alias account by clicking on the three vertical dots next to the alias address.
- You can also set up multiple alias accounts by repeating the process above.
Tips and considerations:
- Email alias accounts are case-sensitive, so make sure to enter the alias address exactly as you want it to appear.
- If you set up an alias account to forward to another email address outside of UVA, be aware that UVA's email system may not be able to verify the authenticity of the external email address.
- If you have multiple alias accounts, you may want to consider setting up filters or labels in your email client to help manage the forwarded emails.
