Access hotmail from outlook express

A blast from the past!

Outlook Express is an older email client that was discontinued by Microsoft in 2007. However, you can still access your Hotmail account from Outlook Express using the following steps:

Method 1: Using the Hotmail POP3 settings

  1. Open Outlook Express and go to Tools > Accounts.
  2. Click Add and select Mail.
  3. Enter your Hotmail email address and password.
  4. Select POP3 as the account type.
  5. Enter the following settings:
    • Incoming mail server: pop3.live.com
    • Outgoing mail server: smtp.live.com
    • User name: your Hotmail email address
    • Password: your Hotmail password
  6. Click Next and then Finish.

Method 2: Using the Hotmail IMAP settings

  1. Open Outlook Express and go to Tools > Accounts.
  2. Click Add and select Mail.
  3. Enter your Hotmail email address and password.
  4. Select IMAP as the account type.
  5. Enter the following settings:
    • Incoming mail server: imap.live.com
    • Outgoing mail server: smtp.live.com
    • User name: your Hotmail email address
    • Password: your Hotmail password
  6. Click Next and then Finish.

Note: IMAP is a more advanced protocol that allows for two-way synchronization between your email client and the Hotmail server. POP3, on the other hand, is a simpler protocol that only downloads emails from the server and does not allow for two-way synchronization.

After setting up your Hotmail account in Outlook Express, you should be able to access your Hotmail emails, send and receive emails, and manage your account settings using the Outlook Express interface.
